Exercise:Balance

In this photograph, balance is achieved by the larger object, the tree in the foreground , being closer to the center than the smaller object, the tree/building in the background. With two unequally sized object in a frame, balance can be achieved by the bigger object being near the center, and the smaller object on the edge of the frame.

Balanced is achieved in this photograph through symmetry. There are many points of symmetry within this photograph, the horizontal lines on the building running parallel, the positioning and space between the windows. And the main ones which i feel draw the viewers attention, which i have highlighted, the four pillars and two statues either sides of the steps. The photograph if cut down the middle, is an almost perfect mirror image.

This image achieves balance by the large object, the window, taking up the center of the frame, and the small, object, the cross at the bottom edge of the frame. You could also say balance is achieved through symmetry of the dhape of the glass in the window.

Balance is achieved through symmetry in this photograph. The street works as a center point for image, drawing your focus straight down the middle. The equally sized, shaped and positioned buildings either side of the street create a symmetrical balance.
In this photograph, i identified the main points and the cathedral on the left, and the bushes on the right. Balance is achieved in this photo by a large object ( cathedral) on one side, closer to the center, and the smaller object (bushes) near the edge of the frame.

In this photograph, the balance is symmetrical. two identical yellow school buses either side of the frame.

I found balance fairly easy to identify in all of these photographs, as they are fairly simplistic and due to this have fewer but more distinct elements that are easily identifiable.
